GRACE UPON GRACE (OVERFLOWING GRACE)

"And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.” — John 1:16
INTRODUCTION: WHEN ORDINARY GRACE IS NOT ENOUGH
Beloved, there are seasons in life when the battles confronting a man overwhelm the limits of human strength, push the heart towards despair, sweep the carpet from beneath the feet of the mighty, and expose the inadequacy of human wisdom.
There are moments when the storms of life become too fierce for ordinary human strategies, when experience seems insufficient, strength begins to fail, and the wisdom of the wise cannot provide the answers needed to survive.
Such seasons demand more than ORDINARY GRACE, GREAT GRACE, AND EXCEEDING GRACE, BUT THEY REQUIRE OVERFLOWING GRACE (GRACE UPON GRACE)!
John 1:16 reveals the secret of an inexhaustible supply: “And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.”
This is not grace that barely sustains us; it is grace that strengthens us to stand, empowers us to overcome, and enables us to fulfil God's purpose in the midst of adversity.
If you must triumph continually through seasons of trouble, affliction, opposition, temptation, and fiery trials, you need overflowing grace. Whether you find yourself in the valley, on the plains, upon the mountains, in the wilderness, in your career, profession, marriage, business, or ministry, the grace of God is your divine advantage for victory.
Paul declares in 2 Corinthians 2:14:
“Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ…”
May you receive fresh grace for every battle and overflowing grace for every assignment, in Jesus' name!
1. OVERFLOWING GRACE FOR CONTINUAL TRIUMPH
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 2:14
There are battles that arise from unexpected directions. Sometimes, the opposition is fierce, the pressure is intense, and the way forward appears blocked. Human calculations may fail, but the grace of God remains sufficient.
Overflowing grace empowers you to rise above circumstances that would ordinarily defeat you. It gives you strength when you are weak, courage when you are afraid, wisdom when you are confused, and endurance when the journey becomes difficult.
You may face opposition in your career, resistance in your ministry, challenges in your marriage, or disappointments in your business. Nevertheless, your circumstances do not have the final authority over your destiny.
The God who causes us to triumph in Christ is able to sustain you through every season and lead you into His purpose.
Prophetic Declaration:
In the name of Jesus Christ, I decree that you shall not be overwhelmed by the battles of life. Receive grace to overcome every opposition, endure every trial, and triumph in every sphere of your life. Where others are defeated, may the grace of God sustain you; where others surrender, may you receive strength to stand. You shall continually triumph in Christ, in Jesus' name!
2. OVERFLOWING GRACE IN THE VALLEY AND AT THE TABLE
Scripture: Psalm 23:4–5
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”
“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies…”
There are seasons when life suddenly takes an unexpected turn. A person who once stood on the mountain may find himself in the valley. Someone who enjoyed stability may suddenly face uncertainty, opposition, or the fear of losing everything.
But the valley is not the end of your journey!
David declared that even in the valley of the shadow of death, he would fear no evil because the Lord was with him. His confidence was not in the absence of danger but in the presence of God.
The same Psalm reveals another dimension of divine grace: God prepares a table before His child in the presence of his enemies.
This is grace that preserves you in the valley and honours you before those who oppose you. It is grace that sustains your life in difficult seasons and enables you to rise above limitations.
When overflowing grace is at work, the valley does not have the final word, opposition cannot dictate your destiny, and the presence of enemies does not cancel God's provision.
Prophetic Declaration:
In the name of Jesus Christ, you shall not sink in the valley of death. Fear shall not overcome you, and adversity shall not swallow your destiny. The Lord shall sustain you in difficult seasons and establish you in the presence of those who oppose you. May He enlarge your opportunities, break every limitation against your advancement, and grant you a place of honour in your career, business, family, and ministry, in Jesus' name!
3. OVERFLOWING GRACE AGAINST THE OVERFLOWING SCOURGE
Scripture: Isaiah 28:14–15
There are forces of opposition that appear determined to sweep away everything a person has laboured to build over the years. These may come through destructive decisions, wicked opposition, unexpected crises, or circumstances that threaten one's family, investments, ministry, and future.
Isaiah 28 speaks of an “overflowing scourge” — a picture of devastating judgment and destruction that overwhelms those who trust in false security.
There are times when human calculations, formulas, connections, and survival strategies prove inadequate against the magnitude of a challenge. Yet, the believer's confidence rests in God, who remains faithful and able to preserve His own.
We must not place our ultimate confidence in human strength or earthly security. Our trust must remain in the Lord, whose wisdom exceeds our understanding and whose power is greater than every opposition.
When the storms rise, may the grace of God preserve what He has entrusted into your hands. May He grant you wisdom to make sound decisions, discernment to avoid destructive paths, and strength to rebuild wherever restoration is needed.
Prophetic Declaration:
In the name of Jesus Christ, may every destructive scourge assigned against your life be rendered ineffective. May the Lord preserve you and your household, protect the work of your hands, and sustain your investments, business, and ministry. You shall not be swept away by the storms of life. Receive grace for preservation, wisdom for decisions, and strength for restoration, in Jesus' name!
4. OVERFLOWING GRACE WHEN YOU ARE PRESSED ON EVERY SIDE
Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 4:8–9; 2 Corinthians 1:8
Paul describes the reality of overwhelming adversity in 2 Corinthians 4:8–9:
“We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.”
There are seasons when a person feels pressed on every side. Trouble comes from multiple directions, answers seem distant, and the burden becomes so heavy that the heart struggles to find hope.
Paul understood this experience. In 2 Corinthians 1:8, he spoke of being burdened beyond measure, above strength, to the point that he despaired even of life.
Yet, his trials did not have the final word.
Through persecution, imprisonment, opposition, shipwrecks, and numerous dangers, Paul continued to fulfil his divine assignment. His life demonstrates that God's grace does not always prevent the battle; sometimes, it sustains us through the battle and enables us to emerge with our faith intact.
The evidence of overflowing grace is not that you never encounter adversity, but that adversity does not have the power to terminate God's purpose for your life.
You may be pressed, but you need not be crushed. You may be perplexed, but you need not surrender to despair. You may be cast down, but by God's sustaining grace, you can rise again.
Whether the battle concerns your marriage, finances, health, business, career, relationships, or ministry, the Lord can supply the strength you need for the journey.
Prophetic Declaration:
In the name of Jesus Christ, receive grace to stand undefeated in the midst of the battles confronting you. When you are pressed on every side, may you not be crushed. When you are perplexed, may you not be driven into despair. When you are cast down, may you rise again by the power of God's sustaining grace. You may have been knocked down, but you shall not be destroyed. May the Lord renew your strength and preserve your faith until you fulfil your purpose, in Jesus' name!
5. GRACE UPON GRACE FOR THE FULFILMENT OF PURPOSE
Scripture: John 1:16
“And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.”
The ultimate purpose of overflowing grace is not merely to survive life's battles; it is also to fulfil God's purpose, accomplish our divine assignments, and finish the work entrusted to us.
Every assignment from God requires His enabling grace. The grace to begin may not be the same measure of strength required to continue, withstand opposition, overcome distractions, and finish well.
That is why we must continually draw from the fullness of Christ.
Grace upon grace means depending on the sufficiency of Christ in every season. When you need wisdom, receive His wisdom. When you need strength, depend on His strength. When you need courage, draw near to Him. When you need endurance, look to Him for sustaining power.
You do not have to rely solely on yesterday's strength to confront today's challenges. The Lord is able to supply fresh grace for every new demand and every stage of your journey.
Therefore, do not abandon your calling because the battle is difficult. Do not surrender your assignment because opposition has increased. Do not conclude that your destiny is over because your present circumstances are uncomfortable.
Return to the Source of grace. Depend on His fullness, walk in obedience, and continue faithfully in the work He has committed into your hands.
Prophetic Declaration:
In the name of Jesus Christ, receive grace upon grace for the fulfilment of your divine purpose. May the Lord empower you to fulfil your calling, complete your assignments, overcome every legitimate obstacle, and finish your race with joy. You shall not abandon your divine purpose through discouragement or exhaustion. May fresh grace be released upon you for every new season, in Jesus' name!
CONCLUSION: YOUR PORTION IS GRACE UPON GRACE!
Beloved, life will present seasons that demand more than natural strength, human wisdom, and personal experience. In such seasons, your greatest advantage is the Overflowing Grace of God.
Grace for the battle.
Grace for the valley.
Grace for preservation.
Grace for endurance.
Grace for advancement.
Grace for your calling.
Grace to finish well.
The fullness of Christ is inexhaustible, and His grace is sufficient for every season. Therefore, do not measure your future only by the magnitude of your present battle. Look unto Christ, the Source of grace, and continue to trust Him.
You shall not be overwhelmed. You shall not be abandoned. You shall not be destroyed. By the grace of God, you shall stand, overcome, and fulfil your purpose!
From today, may you receive not merely sufficient grace, but overflowing grace ; GRACE UPON GRACE!
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
